There has been much written about the horror that took place in Newtown. There is much to write because we understand we cannot forget this one…not this tragedy. It’s been tackled in so many ways but I would like to go in a little different direction. I am going to encourage all of you to write ...or say some version of the below to your children, to those you love:
“Today I stopped and thought what a wonderful daughter I have, and I thought I’d tell you. My dearest Erica, you are and forever will be my sweet baby girl. You possess a piece of my heart and soul, and I will never be complete without you. Remember this in your darkest times...you are never alone.
Your Mom.
Be safe, be well, be happy. No one deserves it more!”
This note was given to her daughter by the Sandy Hook Elementary School principal, Dawn Hochsprung. It is a note shared by Ms. Hochsprung's daughter, Erica Lafferty…one of the many memories of her mother. Her mom lost her life a few days ago trying to save the children in her school. This was a horrid, horrid thing that happened in this little town. But even amidst the horror there is at least one timely message. Tell your children you love them while you can. No one knows when the opportunity may slip away.
Thank you Ms. Hochsprung and thank you Erica for sharing this beautiful message with us.
