There is much discourse regarding the Supreme Court taking on the Bible versus the Constitution in its decision regarding gay marriage. As a side note, let me mention that several of my religious friends and family support gay marriage...on the otherhand grandmother does not. As I was reading the comments I was intrigued by the tone of some of the comments regarding religion in general. Some going so far as to call religous believers foolish, stupid or ignorant. In most religions there is a depiction of what comes after our time here on earth. For many of these religions it is some form of heaven or hell. As I read the comments I pondered the question, "What if there really is a hell?"
What if there is really a place of eternal suffering and punishment in the afterlife that corresponds to the sins we have committed during life? What if there is this fiery, painful, eternal place…this perpetual place that is beyond our worst nightmares? What if there is truly a separation for those who live a life of love and helping versus those who live lives of lust and destruction? What if the concept of repentance is a falsehood and our afterlife is based solely on the balance of one’s good and bad deeds during our earthly stay? What if the belief that there will be no atonement for the way one lives one’s life is the real myth?
What if there really is hell?
