The last few weeks have been so hectic at work. It seems they keep piling it on and piling it on but no one talks about money. I keep seeing the announcements about high level managers, mostly white males, moving on up the ladder and we all know they are getting raises. But the line-workers, the paper-pushers, we just keep doing and doing and hope we get that cost-of-living raise and Christmas bonus. Lawdy be!
My spirit is screaming; my heart is full of fear. I want to say something but everywhere I look people are losing their jobs and every single day and every single night we hear about the unemployment rate. And as if that ain’t enough there is the chant of the fiscal cliff. There are these politicians, many of whom have never done an honest day’s work, doing all they can to terrorize me into doing all I can do without asking for a dime in increased wages. They are even trying to destroy our one recourse in the event things continue to go in the wrong direction…unions. Oh, I know it’s a bad word…but it was the working man’s “race card” and they are slowly but systematically taking that away.
I don’t know why I am complaining because it’s not like I’m going anywhere not even if I could fine another job. I have twenty years of time and if I quit or get fired then I will have to start all over…losing my vacation, my seniority and my friends.
Oh look, Bob got a promotion. Yippee! Interesting...the company just anounced great quarter!
