We always talked about politics and why not…we’re the best of friends. Four years ago, we couldn’t stop talking about the election. But in the last few months nothing, we have not discussed one iota about Mitt Romney or President Obama. Our monthly calls slowed because how could friends who have always discussed politics avoid the subject without being ever so awkward. Somehow, we managed.
I can only speculate about what has changed, but I haven’t press the issue because if it’s true I would rather go on in darkness. But I believe that due to an inheritance, my friend had become a member of the other side…the wealthy. Not the one percent…but the over $250,000 group.
And so the right-to-life issues, universal healthcare issues and so on are no longer as important as the tax breaks.
I really don’t know the problem, and I really hope I am wrong. But I’m not willing to ask. Chances are my friend will read this and I will get a telephone call and we will discuss a lot more than politics. Good thing is my friend knows I’m bad with relationships, so I will be forgiven if I am wrong.
