Sometimes people get the numbers mixed up with the percentages.  For instance, while there may be a higher percentage of blacks getting food stamps, the actual number of whites getting food stamps is larger?  While there may be a higher percentage of blacks unemployed, the actual number of whites getting unemployment is much larger.  While the percentage of blacks getting the Pell grant is higher, the actual number of whites getting the Pell Grant is much higher.  While the percentage of blacks with homes in or facing foreclosure may be higher, the actual number of whites post, currently going through or facing foreclosure is much higher.  So, for those who think this election is about race, be clear that the Romney/Ryan policies will hurt many, many whites. 

Let’s take a look at a few of the numbers:

Food Stamp recipients:

Black:  4,038,000

White:   6,555,000

Pell Grant Recipients (2010):

Blacks:  1,098,000

Whites:  5,670,000

Minorities are not the only U.S. citizens who benefit from the safety nets that the Republicans are targeting.
