You know, it has been fascinating listening to the discourse regarding the debate between Mitt Romney and President Obama . On the heels of a Romney debate performance filled with misrepresentations and outright lies, I listened to Romney advisor John Sununu describe President Obama as “incompetent,” “lazy,” “detached, “ and “not that bright.” For days I have listened to Joe Scarborough of “Morning Joe” insinuate or perhaps just say that the President does not have an understanding of his policies--in other words he was saying the President is not that bright and/or perhaps lazy.
It must be wonderful to finally be able to bask in a Romney success…it has not been something they have been able to do for 18 months.
This morning I watched a clip of Newt Gingrich saying that it is the job of the President to be able to communicate his ideas. Two things: 1) If what you are communicating is not healthy for the country or untrue then you are not getting my vote; 2) If good communication was the answer, then why is Romney, the former Governor of Massachusetts, losing by a landslide in that state?
Don’t get me wrong, I fully understand that President Obama’s debate showing was not the best and that Mitt Romney gave a very good performance…that is, if you judging by delivery style and not so much substance. But I assure you, that given weeks of preparation, my child would have given a great performance too. But this is not audition for a high school play, this is the presidency of the United States.
Wake up folks! Even a not so bright President Obama would be better than Mitt Romney. He looks us straight in the eye and tells lie after lie after lie. This man orchestrated the closure of many US businesses and outsourced the jobs overseas. This man supported the Vietnam draft and then dodged the war. Over 18 months, this is the first appearance of length this man has arguably had without a major gaffe and it took weeks of preparation to get him there; God help us in a national emergency. This man was elected to the governorship of Massachusetts and lauds his success but he is losing in that state by more than 15 points. Wake Up folks!
Now, let’s talk about the substance in the debate. Mitt Romney said he would not cut five trillion dollars in taxes…okay so its 3.8 trillion. This man told you he will not cut taxes on the richest Americans. He told you he believes in vouchers for Social Security. He told you he cares about the regular guy…but you saw the video. He told you he would cut everything that we had to borrow from other countries to support…and, that he would not cut taxes, and that he would not cut education, and that he would give tax breaks. The man is lying. As former President Clinton said, do the math. And, President Obama did explain that to you during the debate.
Wake up folks…everything that shines is not gold.
President Obama saw us through the worst time in recent history. His stepped into this job while Mitt Romney sat on the sidelines watching--he put his little tail between his legs and went home on the heels of being whooped by the likes of John McCain. Things are not great but we are no longer in freefall. We are moving forward. Bin Laden is dead and wars are ending. If he's not that bright, then maybe bright isn't what we need at this time in history. And if he's lazy, then this is the kind of lazy we needed in this crisis.
But for the record, I'm not buying that this Harvard graduate is not that bright and I am certainly not buying that our President is lazy. Remember where we were when he took office. Wake up folks!
