It was a work of art, a prosecutorial work of genius. That describes the performance of Paul Ryan last night. But let us not be fooled…a performance it was. He made hearts leap and made some forget for a few moments the horrible mess the GOP policies left us in.
Ryan even resorted to one of his running mate’s tactics…he flat out lied. Ryan reprised his claim that Obama broke a promise made during the 2008 presidential campaign to keep a General Motors plant open in Ryan's hometown of Janesville, Wis., but instead was ultimately responsible for its closing. But the plant closed while George W. Bush was in office, and Obama never made such a promise. That was just one lie—Ryan’s performance was full of twists and nuances flirting with the truth. And, Mitt Romney will surely continue down that path tonight.
I sat there listening to this call for sacrifice by those who can least afford it—and, mind you, most of us are willing to feel a little pain, but EVERYONE needs to feel it…not just the middle class and the impoverished.
He even traveled down the road of aligning Mormonism with traditional Christian faith….whatever. Who cares what faith you are if the message is wrong? I cannot help but wonder where this country would have been after the last Republican fiasco if the safety nets had been gutted. That is the sacrifice the GOP is pushing, gut the safety nets. So, when they mess up again…where does that leave this country?
It was a wonderful show, but I’m not buying it.
