All week long I have heard little more than the constant lament over the defeat of Jordan Wieber--a wonderful gymnast but the owner of third-place. Today, Gabrielle "Gabby" Douglas rocketed herself to her rightful place in the discussion. Gabby became the first American woman to claim team and all-around gold in the same Olympics, completing her meteoric rise to the top of the sport. I truly hope it was something other than racism that resulted in the misplaced focus, but all was quieted today. In the coming days, the focus will be on this wonderful athlete and the team she led to gold. Hopefully, more gold will come from the entire team in the individual competition.
