Oh, how quickly things can go downhill. Yesterday morning I have to be admit that I became a little upended by an article regarding Mitt Romney making a pitch to black voters. Now mind you, I think that as a candidate Romney should be targeting the black vote—but that was not the reason given. The "so-called" pitch was “also aimed at showing independent and swing voters that he's willing to reach out to diverse audiences — and demonstrating that his campaign and the Republican Party he leads are inclusive.”
He was not coming to the meeting to try and get African American support...not really to get the black vote. It is as if they have already made up in their minds that African Americans are mindless sheep capable of only voting one way. Why talk to me period if you really think I am not capable of processing your message and voting for you…that is, unless “you” think your message is a bunch of bull and not worthy of my vote. So, it was a lose-lose for Romney--that is when it came to the black vote.
Mr. Romney, Hillary Clinton came to the house with a message and got a huge chunk of the black vote--HUGE. Because you are Republican, I think it is correct that you could not hope to get that kind of support, however most African Americans voters are fully engaged in the process. Our vote is not on auto-pilot. When you come to my house, please come to speak to me and not to send subliminal messages to other folks.
It is my understanding that it went downhill from there..no excuse for the boos. I really hate that he was heckled because I think any candidate should have his or her say with respect. But if they read the article that I read on yesterday morning, these folks were probably already mad when they got to the meeting.
